Over the weekend, Jake and I rode the scooter over to Cobble Hill to do some exploring. We were wandering up Smith Street when we happened upon a bookstore called Books are Magic. Whaaat?! I must go in!

A super cute boutique bookstore awaited inside! With the best curated shelves I’ve ever seen, I couldn’t help but browse through every section: the bestseller display, fiction, a quick glance over the non-fiction section (because I’m a fluffy reader, as in, when I pick up a book, I want to be taken to the inside of a story that doesn’t require too many brain cells), the cookbooks, and the children’s section. There was a baby book called Feminist Baby that we read standing there. Hilarious!

As I browsed, I started noticing this little post-it on some of the books, “Signed at Books are Magic.” OHMYGOD these books have been signed by the authors HERE in this bookstore! That is so fucking amazing!

And THEN I noticed another note on one of the shelves stating that the author Emma Straub is actually the owner of Books are Magic and you can ask her to personalize any of her books for you within a couple days. This is the coolest bookstore I’ve ever been to in my life.

I picked up Emma’s NY Times bestseller The Vacationers for our trip to Ireland this week and I can’t wait for the plane ride so I can read it!

I tolerate my Kindle for the sheer convenience of having as many books with me as I can stuff onto it for only the weight of my phone or iPad, and so I never have to be bored on the subway because I forgot, or didn’t want to carry, a book. How people just sit there staring off into space during their ride into the city I’ll never understand. I must be DOING something, people. The digital life is a convenient life, but something is lost in the digitizing of whatever it is. The feel of an actual paper book in my hands while I read it IS magic and books really are pure freaking magic.

If you want to un-digitize some more of your life, print some of your Instagram photos. For help with that, pop your name and email into the box below and I’ll send you my free guide complete with awesome place to print your iPhone photos directly from your phone.
