We have a ridiculously large terrace for the size of our apartment. Like, the terrace is half the square footage of the apartment. But no way I’m complaining. Even in the winter, it makes our small apartment feel bigger, just being able to look out the window and see extra space that’s ours.

Shortly after moving in, I discovered a book about container gardening and I was like whaaaaaaaat?! So amazing. The first year things were kind of stunted until we figured out how to fertilize and this year we have an urban jungle with tomatoes that have taken over one side and a fig tree that’s more like a bush.

My terrace is my happy place and on the rare quiet summer day, I can easily imagine I’m not even in NYC anymore. I love the view of Manhattan and the sunsets, Brooklyn has SKY! Zoë will spend hours and hours, even on the hottest days, sleeping underneath the outdoor couch, but my favorite is when she curls up right next to me. On warm evenings, Jake will make cocktails, we’ll turn the cafe lights on and even as the summer sun sets, the glow continues.

Contact me during the month of August about getting a portrait session started for you, mention this post, and I’ll invite you over for a glass of wine on the terrace!
